The Friends was established in 1986 to foster the
work of the Sanctuary through financial support and
volunteer service.
The two main purposes of the Friends are:
- to raise and maintain funds to use exclusively
in support of the preservation, enhancement, and
operation of the Jug Bay Wetlands Sanctuary;
and
- to foster education and research programs
which increase public awareness of, interest
in, and appreciation for, the history and
ecology of the Jug Bay area, including the
adjacent wetlands and the Patuxent River, a
major tributary of the Chesapeake Bay.
These purposes are consistent with the Sanctuary's
missions of environmental education, scientific
research, and habitat preservation and restoration. |
